Nigeria and the United Kingdom (UK) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to foster Military Technical Cooperation between both nations.

Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, who presided over the signing ceremony stressed that Nigeria needs continuous support from the UK in the areas of peace-keeping and the Niger Delta region.

Earlier, the British High Commissioner in Nigeria, Ambassador R.S. Dewar, had paid condolences to the Minister on the 46 Nigerian soldiers who lost their lives recently in an accident while returning from an international peacekeeping mission.

He said that Britain takes her partnership with Africa generally and Nigeria in particular seriously, adding that he was looking forward to the deepening of the relationship between both countries.

While noting that the MOU will provide a legal framework for the two countries to operate in training, capacity building and other Military techniques, the Envoy lauded Nigeria’s role in preventing conflicts in Africa and the world at large.
